Interceptor To Do List {
I bought the Interceptor to be my official #2 bike... The 88 Magna will always be the king of my garage, but I don't want it to be my daily driver. The bikes are too rare and I've put WAY too much of my own blood, sweat and tears into that thing to wear it down too quickly. I needed another bike that I really enjoy riding to keep me from putting too many miles on the Super.

Stuff I want to do to this freakin' monster:
  • Move the license plate (Done before I bought it) - the stock plate mount was chopped down to nearly nothing and moved up between the mufflers. The plate clears both mufflers, but must be bent outward to avoid hitting the tire.
  • Semi-gutted exhaust (Done before I bought it) - The previous owner unbolted the rear covers to the mufflers and sawed off the ends of the pipes. The result is a nice deep roar that is much louder, but not too loud. It does not cause a droning effect at all.
  • Lower the rear end about 1" (Done - about 3/4" by rotating the shock mount triangles)
      Triangle plate mod:
Looking at the triangle from the left (chain) side, the link between the dogbone and frame is shorter than the other sides. If the plate is rotated clockwise (toward the back of the bike), the short-side will sit between the dogbone and the shock, and the arrows on the plate will point up and back, toward the passenger.
  • Lower the front end to match the rear (Done - lowered 15mm by sliding forks up in triple tree)
  • Replace the grips with larger-diameter ones (Done, might replace again) I Got Pro-Grip 721's. They're 5mm longer than stock (which would definitely interfere with adding a throttle lock, which I want to do), but they look nearly stock and do add some nice comfort.
  • Frame Sliders-Motovation. Definitely definitely definitely use a tripod-mounted laser pointer to line up your drill holes! I bought one for $5 from the local Harbor Freight. The included tripod sucks, so use another if you have one. (Done)
  • Luggage... Tank bag and tail bag from Nelson-Rigg. CL-350 (magnetic tank) and CL150 (tail). (Done)
  • Turbo City FPR - Certainly an improvement, though not as much as I hoped. I dropped about 2-3mpg from adding this. (Done)
  • New Seat - Sargent. with CarbonFX and silver trim. GREAT seat! The surface is slicker than stock, so expect to shift around a bit. (Done)
  • Flapper & Air snorkel mod (Done). Just takes an old screw (plug the vacuum line) and a razor knife (to trim the snorkel).
  • GPS. I've gone with the Garmin StreetPilot 2720.(Done)
  • RAM Mount base, cradle, and ball for tank-mounting it. (Done)
  • Powerlet left panel kit and PPC-003 power cable feeds the unit. (Done)
  • Second Powerlet outlet, to power ipod and/or phone.
  • ThrottleMeister Throttle Lock - Heavy version, in black. (Done)
  • BMC air filter?
  • EVO Shift STAR Kit - Improves shifting action tremendously!
  • Tires - Michelin Pilot Powers (Done) ... At 6000 miles, I replaced the rear BT020 with a Metzeler Sportec M1. Rear grip was MUCH better. I tore through the M1 in about 2500 miles, which I expected (Deals Gap does that to tires!). On went a full set of Pilot Powers - WOW, what a difference! The bike no longer requires constant countersteering force to stay in a turn... the steering is very neutral when leaned over, and the tires feel wonderfully planted to the pavement.
