By Craig Reese on the Super Magna Message Board, 10/12/03 Im not up on the cost of chroming,(but im sure someone here could chime in on what it should be $$) but as far as gutting them i did mine a few years back, i think there was like 6 spot welds per pipe that i drilled out with maybe a 1/4" bit. you may have to shorten the pipes a tad bit (i think the ends of the pipes are rolled so it would be hard to pull out the baffles)i used a little 110volt wire welder to fill the holes. i would guess $25.00-$50.00 would be a fair price for the welding. after that you need to grind down the welds untill there flush, next i used a hi-temp machinable epoxy and sanded that down to fill any imperfections, after that i painted mine but i dont see why you could not chrome over the epoxy, afterall they chrome plastics right? i than had 4 aluminim end caps machined that are held in by a set screw. im very happy with the results, at first i was looking into aftermarket ones but i found a fairly nice used set so i bought them and thought what do i have to loose(i still have the set that came on the bike in super condition) if you decide to go this route let me know and i will take a look at my factory untouched set to see if i can remember anymore details.. either way you go im sure you'll be satisfied... craig reese David on the slant-cut mod..... OK --- The end cap is cut off first, and it is important to only cut through the outer shell of the muffler or you will cut off the part you will use later. I used a hack saw and cut around as I cut through the shell. The guards-- They are cut off when you cut the slant in the pipe. But keep the pipe as long as possible.I cut mine at 36 deg. but if i were to do it again I would cut it to 40 deg.. Make sure the slant does not go behind the bafle [ the one thats under the end cap that has three round welds that hold it in]. DON'T CUT THE ANGLE WITH A HACKSAW. TAKE IT TO A MACHINE SHOP WITH A ANGLE CUT BAND SAW THAT HAS A CLAMP TO HOLD THE PIPES TIGHT. aLSO THE UPPER PIPE IS CUT FIRST THEN THE LOWER IS CUT LONGER LONGER. It cost me 20.00 to have that done. david
